Using spot price limit for heating

Created by Themo Support, Modified on Wed, 14 Aug at 11:47 PM by Themo Support

Spot price limit setting is available for both Thermostat and PriceSwitch functions. This feature allows Themo to automatically stop heating if the hourly spot price exceeds the limit you've set. It's important to note that this feature is entirely optional and can be enabled or disabled based on your personal preference.

Spot price limit logic

Themo calculates the optimal heating schedule based on the future electricity price in a way to minimise cost. Spot price limit is taken into account after the calculation, which means that the heating hours exceeding the user set price limit will be excluded. This may cause no heating to occur during the scheduled hours.

Please see the graph blow where price limit has been set to 17 c/kWh and therefore temperature dropped below the temperature range.

It is important to understand that the price limit is a fixed value, whereas the daily spot prices can fluctuate considerably. If the spot price limit is set to very low value and all the daily hourly prices exceed this value then no heating will occur.

Important! Frost protection feature is not activated in the Schedule Mode and therefore this feature can cause damage to your floor in freezing conditions.

Enabling spot price limit

  1. Open app and navigate to Device > SettingsSpot price limit
  2. Toggle the price limit on
  3. Select the price limit where device switches to off (default value is 150 c/kWh)

Note! Currently spot price limit can not be below zero.
